SISTER MARY WILLIAM MILLS

Sister Mary William Mills, OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on November 8, 2007 in Nyack Hospital. Born in New York City on January 4, 1913, Elizabeth was the daughter of James and Catherine Hanley Mills.

She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill in 1937 and became known as Sister Mary William, professing her first vows in 1938 and final vows in 1943. Sister Mary William spent her professional career working as a secretary and office administrator in St. Agnes Home for Boys, Sparkill, NY (1938-1952) and Cardinal McCloskey Home, White Plains, NY (1952-1993). Upon her retirement in 1993, Sister offered local community service at Dominican Convent and in 2002, she became a resident of Siena Hall Infirmary.

Sister Mary William is survived by her twin sister, Jeannette McCartney of Connecticut, her nephews Vincent (Paul) Whitfield (wife Margaret) of Sewell, NJ, Brian Whitfield (wife Mary Ellen) of Connecticut, Kenneth Whitfield (wife Dolores) of Florida, Richard Whitfield of Long Island, NY, cousins Thomas (wife Rose) Kennedy of Westwood, NJ and many grand nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Dominican Convent, Sparkill, NY on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Visitation is on Monday, November 12, 2007 from 3:30 to 8:00 at the Convent, 175 Rte. 340, Sparkill, NY. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill. Arrangements are by Higgins Funeral Home.
