I was not aware of a website for St. Agnes Convent. I am finding it interesting. My uncle Mike Maltese and his siblings were brought up there c.1922 to 1938. I'm hoping to find information on him and his siblings since his passing this March 15, 2007.

Hello, former St. Agnes School alumni (my condolences to the family members of those who did their early years at St. Agnes) i arrived at St. Agnes in 1962 until 1967. i have fond memories for the time i spent their, where i learned respect and discipline. I remember the school principle (Sr. Ann Bernadette), Mr. O'brien and i remember a nun very small in height who was my inspiration in life a great teacher. Does anyone remember placing the black sox on the end of the bed rail in order to be woken up for early mass and eat breakfast first? the softball game "old cat". the scary watchman who made his tours at night and the girls whenever we visited St. Dominics. after St. Agnes i attended Pius X12 School in Chester NY. Sure all of us got older but the memories stay young and fresh forever.

Nice site, many memories. Anyone there during 1969 to about 1971? I can only remember one fellow St. Agnes alumni's name.... Guzman. But I do remember learning how to smoke cigs at the merry-go-round!!! I have many memories, one is of a woman named "Pam" (a worker at St. Agnes) who seemed to me to be the most beautiful woman on earth! She left and I was in mouring after that! One other guy I remember was a guy named "James" he was a big guy and I always liked being around him because he would protect me from "Guzman" :-) I also remember going down into the dark halls of the basement just to look for ciggerette butts to smoke! Many memoreis of this place, some good, some bad. Juan

My father, Edwin Johnson, was at St. Agnes from 1926-1940. After he left, he joined the Navy and served on an LST during WWII and was in the Normandy invasion. I can remember him telling stories about "the home", picking beans and playing hockey on the frozen lake in winter. I visited there with him many times as a young child. I can remember a Sister Ambrosia..There were many others but their names escape me. He was especially fond of Coach Faulk and spoke very kindly of him. He passed away in 1972 at the age of 48 and is buried in Yonkers, N.Y. I am so glad to have found your site and to be able to add his name to the guestbook. Thanks so much.

Well I have to say I finally found this site I haven't had any tears yet because I am being very cautious about what I type here, I was under the care of Saint Agnes between the yrs 1966 to 1973 main sparkill campus, was transfered to a group home set up in Brooklyn I have a lot more to share but right now I'm in a state of confusion, oh don't worry it's a happy confusion I found my lost history and I have to add it made a special difference for me. But hey let me bring this to a close for the time being and see what happens ..

Hi everyone; It always brings me to tears when I go to this site and real letter, see messages and find myself remembring my time at St Agnes. I am 52 now, I was there in the early 1960s with my two brothers Rodolfo Colon and Edward Colon. I have lived every minute of my life with fond memories of the Color Wars we used to have, Trips to Coney Island, West Point and the annual trip to see Santa Clause each year. The lake that froze up in the winter is as vivid in my mind now as it was then. I loved skating there. Sister Ann Bernadette, Sister Mary Margarette, Mr O'brien, Mr Glenn, Mr Coleman *social worker, and so many names that they all seem to have melded into one person. Neverthelss, I do remember many more faces than names. I loved being a House's Kid and am so very proud and grateful that I was given the care and love that I otherwise may not have had if not for the sisters there. I just want to thank everyone involved for this outreach to one another. Truth be told, you are all more my family than any other has ever been in all my life and I feel a sincere loving passion for you all. There are no words that can describe my love for you. I wish you all peace of mind, love of family and the best of everything God can bless you with. Ricardo C. Colón House's Kid

Hi, I am a friend of Henry Carlyle (House Kid from 1927-1934), he turned 90 this year. I am trying to help him find info. on his family/friends. He mentioned to me that he had some friends that were in this orphanage,or in the "St. Josephs by the Sea" orphanage with him, he said their names were- Leonard, Versi and McGraw(maybe became a Priest). If there is anyone out there that may know of these 3 boys or have a photo, please let me know. His vision is not so great, before it is gone I would like to find some photos of friends or family that he could look at. Thank You! my email is gcdaf@msn.com

Hi all. Occasionally, the question arises, "How do I get old 'House' personal records?" I would write a letter requesting specific information to the archivist, Sr. Catherine Tahaney, Dominican Convent, 175 Route 340 Sparkill, NY 10976-1047. Follow up with a phone call only if you don't understand her response, or if you receive no response in 4 - 6 weeks. The phone number is 845-359-6400 X218.

My father, William Bell was a student at St. Agnes many years ago. He contacted me to let me know there was a website. I enjoyed viewing the pictures from the 2004 reunion.
